From 1 July 2022, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will be dissolved, and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will take over the responsibility for NHS functions and budgets. We will become part of NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB. You can continue to use this website to find the information you need, which remains relevant for the Hull area.

Period Dignity Hull is a collective of individuals and organisations in the city who are dedicated to making Hull period friendly.

They want Hull to be a city where:

  • everyone can access the period products they need;
  • periods are destigmatised and talked about openly.

Following Period Dignity Hull's successful start up event in March, it has gained support from lots of period allies who have been working behind the scenes getting ready to launch its collection and donation points across the city.  It is determined to ensure that anyone who needs period products can access them for free, in as many locations as possible.

Councillor Hester Bridges, Deputy Leader of Hull City Council and Chair of Hull Health and Wellbeing Board said “We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the many organisations in the city who have come forward offering to host a donation and collection bin.  We are so grateful that they are keen to work with us to ensure that everyone who needs period products can easily access them.”

Andie Cropper of Andie’s Period Poverty Support achieved amazing things in a short space of time in response to a sharp increase in need, she said “The current pandemic, with its knock on effects of furlough, contracts being cut and redundancies has shown how anyone, regardless of their ‘normal’ circumstances can be adversely affected.  Andie’s Period Poverty Support is proud to be aligned with Period Dignity Hull.”

Stacey McEvoy who is part of the Period Dignity Hull collective describes why this support is needed, “At Purple House we have worked with women and girls whose periods are used as a tool in their abuse.  Most significantly in the denial of access to products.  Creating a safe space and opportunity where they can access them without shame or backlash is absolutely vital.”

The Warren are key members of the collective, Elle Douglas explains: “We have always given out free period products at The Warren to those who need them. The past 18 months has led us to understand the demand is greater, as soon as we were introduced to the Period Dignity Hull campaign we knew we had to get involved to help end stigma and to allow people of Hull greater access to products.”

Lydia Rangeley adds: “We use our experiences of working at The Warren and our ethos around inclusivity to ensure the Period Dignity Hull campaign is accessible to all.  Working on this campaign has encouraged us to do more to challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation and we have started work on our own in-house period campaign.”
