A new film that could help save lives has been launched, specifically aimed at people with learning disabilities.

The thirty minute film, broken into short chapters, uses simple language and pictures to talk through the bowel scope screening process from what bowel scope screening is and why you should have it, getting ready for your test and what happens at your appointment.

It also talks about some of the reasons why you may not be suitable for bowel scope screening and how to spot signs of bowel cancer.

The film, made with the help of Lincolnshire and Leicester Bowel Cancer screening centres, Leicestershire Partnership Trust and Lincolnshire Community Learning Disabilities teams, will help to ensure that there is equal access to screening for everyone.

John Davy, Public Health England’s Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Manager, said:

“We welcome this new film which helps raise awareness of the importance of bowel scope screening.

“This one-off test is being rolled out to men and women aged 55 and already plays a significant role in preventing bowel cancer by identifying any abnormalities, at an early stage, that could develop into bowel cancer if not detected.”

You can download a copy of the film at: https://www.youtube.com or call 0800 707 6060 to get your free copy and easy-read guide.
