November 25 is White Ribbon Day - ‘International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women’.
NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) joined other local agencies in pledging to support the White Ribbon Campaign and help to end male violence against women.
Over next few weeks these partners will be working together to raise awareness of the White Ribbon campaign, which is the world's largest effort to end violence against women and girls.
The White Ribbon campaign recognises that men can be victims of domestic abuse. This campaign, however, is focused on male violence towards women as this is the predominant picture nationally and locally in Hull, with more than 81% of victims being women.
Dave Blain, the CCG’s Designated Professional for Safeguarding Adults, has signed up to become an ambassador for the campaign:
“Almost half of all women and girls will experience domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking in their lifetime.” he said.
“It’s up to us to help create a culture in which violence against women is unacceptable. That includes physical, verbal or emotional abuse. As a city, we need to join together to raise awareness so that we can eliminate this problem from our communities and make Hull a safer place to live and work.”
Hull City Council also employs a dedicated men’s worker who supports male victims of domestic abuse and any activity to raise awareness of domestic abuse will increase awareness and practice for all victims.
