NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Hull City Council have been highly commended in a national award ceremony last night for their approach to shaping the future of health and social care services for people in Hull.

The partnership was shortlisted from dozens of entries in the Health and Social Care category of the 2018 Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards and singled out for special commendation from the judging panel.

The awards, run by Local Government Chronicle, are the biggest and most prestigious awards ceremony for the public sector which recognise the best in public sector innovation and service delivery.

Shortlisted for their shared vision, the two organisations highlighted achievements including:

  • working together to share resources, objectives, ambitions and expected outcomes across CCG, social care and public health with an integrated financial plan of £640m;
  • successful partnerships across the wider public sector (police, fire and ambulance) will ensure sustainability and build on the legacy of City of Culture;
  • innovative housing and care solutions;
  • the development of new ‘frailty pathway’ involving the CCG, social care, GPs and community geriatricians as part of the city’s new Integrated Care Centre due to open in 2018.

Hull CCG Director of Integrated Commissioning, Erica Daley, said:

“It was a delight to be shortlisted for an LGC award, but it’s even better to have our work recognised with a special commendation. It shows how focused we are on working across the public sector and with local people to create a healthier Hull.”

Cllr Gwen Lunn, portfolio holder for public health and adult social care, said:

“We are so proud to have been commended for the continuous hard work that teams at the council and the CCG do every day.

“Our vision as a council for adult social care is that we give the people the support they need to live their lives in the best way possible, maintaining their independence for as long as possible. Both the council and the CCG are fully committed to working together to promote independence and ensure people are in control of their own lives.

“We are very proud to gain national attention for Hull’s pioneering best practice in health and social care”.
