Four key businesses in Hull are to provide a range of taster sessions and activities next week for their workforce, to help to focus on the importance of having a good work-life balance.

To coincide with National Work Life Week 1-5 October 2018, a week of events has been developed by NHS Hull CCG’s Working Lives programme, which seeks to support local employers to create a happier,

healthier and more empowered workforce.

Working Families is the national organisation behind National Work Life week, providing an opportunity for both employers and employees to focus on well-being at work and work-life balance. Employers can use the week to provide activities for staff, and to showcase their flexible working policies and practices.

Four businesses in Hull - The Deep Business Centre, Dept. of Work and Pensions (DWP), Sewells and Wilberforce College - will be hosting activities through the week involving eleven different organisations, charities and community groups. Many of the providers are Hull 2020 Champions.

The Deep Business Centre has taken the further step of opening up the offer to everyone in the city to attend the FREE lunchtime and evening health and lifestyle activities they are hosting, which include food demonstrations/presentations, physical activities with Hull KR and fitmums and mental wellbeing in the workplace.

Freya Cross, Business and Corporate Manager of the Deep Business Centre said:

“We are pleased to be supporting and promoting Work Life Week by hosting presentations and taster sessions throughout the week.  A good work life balance is beneficial for employer and employee alike so whilst we will be encouraging our staff and those of our business centre companies to participate these sessions are open to anyone who would like to come and join us.”

Sam Barlow, NHS Hull CCG Engagement Manager (Business and Local Workforce), added:

“A good work/life balance can enable employees to feel more in control of their working life and, for employers, it can lead to increased productivity, lower absenteeism and a happier, less stressed workforce.

“Our Working Voices programme has reached almost 16,000 people working in Hull-based businesses so far, but this is the first time we have supported the National Work Life Week with a special week of activities aimed at improving wellbeing in the workplace.”
