From 1 July 2022, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will be dissolved, and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will take over the responsibility for NHS functions and budgets. We will become part of NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB. You can continue to use this website to find the information you need, which remains relevant for the Hull area.

From 15 August to 6 November 2016, NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will be consulting local people on options for the future of urgent care services in Hull and will be holding a series of public meetings during August, September and October.

The consultation will provide an opportunity for people to have a say on proposals to relocate two services to a new Urgent Care Centre which would provide care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Under the proposals the minor injuries unit (MIU) at the Freedom Centre and out of hours GP service at Diadem Health Centre would integrate with the MIU at Bransholme Health Centre to form the new urgent care centre, offering treatment and diagnostic tests in the community and away from Hospital.

Urgent care centres usually treat injuries or illnesses that need immediate care, but are not serious enough to require an Accident and Emergency visit. A range of services would be provided at the new urgent care centre, including treatment for minor injuries like cuts, sprains, burns and fractures and diagnostics like x-rays, ultrasound and basic blood testing.

Bransholme Health Centre has been proposed as the site for the new centre because it is a modern, purpose-built health facility offering ample ground floor clinical space and capacity for 24/7 services, as well as x-ray facilities. It is currently well-used with good transport, parking and access.

The urgent care centre would be available for use by anybody in need of immediate care. From sprains to fractures, the service would treat people whose condition is not serious enough to need a visit to Accident and Emergency at the hospital.

The CCG also wants to explore the possibility of developing an alternative health resource focused on the needs of children and families at the Freedom Centre and would welcome ideas from the community about this.

If the outcome of the public consultations is to establish a 24 hour urgent care centre changes would be expected to be in place by 1 April 2017.

A full consultation document will be widely available throughout the consultation period with a freepost questionnaire that can also be completed online at www.hullccg.nhs.uk/urgentcare2016.

Dr John Parker, Chair of the CCG’s Planning and Commissioning Committee, said: “We are constantly working to improve local healthcare services in the community and within the resources we have available.

“Establishing a new Urgent Care Centre, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, will be a huge asset to the community. With integrated out-of-hours GP services, enhanced minor injuries care and increased x-ray provision it will help to make sure that people can get the treatment they need as quickly and effectively as possible.

“Local people are telling us that they are often unsure about where to go for urgent treatment. We have looked at this in detail and we see this new centre as something which will work very well. The CCG want to listen to everyone's views and we are committed to using these to support the development of urgent care services in Hull.”
