This International Women’s Day we stay close to home and celebrate some inspiring women from Hull who are part of our 2020 Champions project.
Bridget Horner, Fitmums and Friends
Fitmums and Friends began in Hull when a few local women started to run together, exercise and encourage each other to be healthier. The group’s friendly atmosphere and open doors have since drawn hundreds more people to join them.
Bridget Horner co-ordinates, the Fitmums’ In the Pink project, which reaches out to women who might not feel comfortable joining large groups.
In the Pink pairs a new attendee with a mentor and friend who will help to ease them into the group. The project has proved successful at helping people to tackle anxiety, post-natal depression and many other mental health issues that some new mums face.
Eileen Wright, Endike Community Care
Endike Community Care provides a day centre service and respite support for elderly people. Over 75% of their attendees live with some form of memory impairment.
Those attending the centre, which has been running for 20 years, have the opportunity to get involved in activities which play a crucial part in helping to slow memory loss.
Eileen Wright is one of our Hull 2020 Champions. She leads the Endike Community Care team, helping to support all those who need it from local residents to their families and carers.
These are just two stories from a city filled with inspirational women who work hard on projects like: Groundwork, Jen’s Pick Me Up, the Real junk Food project and many more.
NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group is proud to work with all of our Hull 2020 Champions. Want to find out more about these projects? Visit the Hull 2020 Champions website.
