Please see latest update for patients from NHS England on industrial action by junior doctors
Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust:
As a result of the British Medical Association announcement earlier this week, junior doctors will be taking part in nationally planned industrial action from as early as next week.
Doctors are expected to strike on the following dates:
- 12th January, when emergency cover only will be provided for a 24 hour period
- 26th January when emergency cover only will be provided for 48 hours
- 10th February when full strike action will take place between 8am and 5pm.
Mr Kevin Phillips, Chief Medical Officer at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust says:
“Locally, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust recognises the right of doctors to voice their opinions through industrial action. We are working closely with all parties to ensure contingency plans are in place that enable the continued provision of a high quality and safe service to patients during this period of industrial action.
“Cover will remain in place for all emergency patients, and a number of clinics and operations will continue as planned. However, a number of patients due to attend for routine operations or appointments may be rescheduled where it is clinically safe to do so. We will contact any affected patients as soon as possible.”
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS
Patients who are due to attend appointments or come into hospital during the period of strike action are asked to continue as normal, unless contacted by a member of the hospital team to advise otherwise and / or make alternative arrangements.
We would also encourage patients, carers and the public to familiarise themselves with alternative sources of healthcare advice and medical treatment in order to help relieve anticipated pressures; information on local services is available at www.nhs.uk
Patients with further concerns around appointment arrangements, during the days of strike action are advised to contact the telephone number provided on the appointment change / cancellation letter.
