A new addition to the Urgent Care Centre in Bransholme is set to cut waiting times and give people access to more advanced care services, around the clock.
The brand new X-ray diagnostic facilities at Bransholme Health Centre will significantly improve the services on offer and help divert people away from accident and emergency, allowing them to be seen quicker.
The Urgent Care Centre, which is the first of its kind in Hull, is open 24 hours, 7 days per week for people with unplanned care needs, including injury and illness.
The Centre, which is run by City Health Care Partnership CIC and commissioned by NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), was identified as a key location to deliver urgent care services, with the aim of reducing pressure on acute hospital sites.
Erica Daley, Hull CCG Director of Integrated Commissioning, said:
“This is a superb new facility for the whole city, with minor injuries services and out of hours GPs located under one roof in a modern, welcoming environment.
“We are very pleased that more people are using the Urgent Care Centre for treatment for minor injuries as an alternative to the Emergency Department. Our local GPs have also welcomed increased access to x-ray in the community.”
Andrew Burnell, Chief Executive at City Health Care Partnership CIC, added:
“Many people go to Accident and Emergency when they could be treated just as well, and probably quicker, at a Minor Injuries Unit, without needing an appointment.
“The existing MIU, GP and community services are significantly enhanced by the addition of these X-ray facilities, which reduce further the need for people to present to A&E.”
The urgent care centre provides treatment for minor injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, for people with non-critical injuries such as cuts and wounds, burns and scalds, muscle and joint injuries or suspected factures.
People can also access an out-of-hours GP service, but they must make an appointment first by calling 111 and getting referred.
Bransholme Health Centre was built by Citycare in 2015, who also undertook the conversion works to accommodate the new X-ray facilities.
Jonathan Ramsey, Estates Manager at Citycare, said:
“Our buildings are designed to be flexible and house different services, and this specialist work has allowed the installation of X-ray facilities.
“Working with our partners, we are delighted to have been involved in this project, increasing services for the local community and making the most of the estate. It was delivered on time, on budget and with minimal disruption to live services within the health centre.
“It has created a hub for diagnostics and also aims to take the pressure off the acute setting, reducing the pressure on the city’s accident and emergency department.
“We are always looking for ways to improve the offering within our buildings and we’re really pleased City Health Care Partnership (CHCP) can now deliver this extended range of services.”
